A Clear Purpose: Protect, Preserve, and Improve the Breed
There are so many facets to this wonderful breed. Dedicated Pointer enthusiasts pool their time and talents to contribute to the American Pointer Club’s goals to:
- Work to bring the natural abilities of the Pointer to perfection
- Preserve and improve the health and welfare of Pointers
- Educate the public about this great breed
- Encourage sportsmanlike participation in AKC events including conformation dog shows, field trials, hunt tests, obedience and agility trials and other companion events
- Encourage members, breeders, and judges to evaluate and breed according to the official breed standard
- Advance the interests of the breed by hosting AKC sanctioned events, including conformation dog shows, field trials, hunt tests, obedience and agility trials and other companion events
- Support organization of independent local Pointer clubs
- Support humane rescue of Pointers when needed
