APC Purpose

A Clear Purpose:  Protect, Preserve, and Improve the Breed

There are so many facets to this wonderful breed.  Dedicated Pointer enthusiasts pool their time and talents to contribute to the American Pointer Club’s goals to:

  • Work to bring the natural abilities of the Pointer to perfection
  • Preserve and improve the health and welfare of Pointers
  • Educate the public about this great breed
  • Encourage sportsmanlike participation in AKC events including conformation dog shows, field trials, hunt tests, obedience and agility trials and other companion events
  • Encourage members, breeders, and judges to evaluate and breed according to the official breed standard
  • Advance the interests of the breed by hosting AKC sanctioned events, including conformation dog shows, field trials, hunt tests, obedience and agility trials and other companion events
  • Support organization of independent local Pointer clubs
  • Support humane rescue of Pointers when needed

Pointers in Action:  Share the Goals, Share the Fun

Activities organized under American Kennel Club rules play a big part in APC’s efforts to promote and advance the Pointer breed. Participation in these events allows owners and breeders to get objective opinions of dogs’ natural abilities, breed type and structure by expert judges and benchmark their dogs and breeding programs against others in their region or across the country.
