The American Pointer Club walking field trial was held in conjunction with the '99 National Specialty on May 17th at the Big Spring Hunting Preserve n Sussex, New Jersey. W had a total entry of 37 Pointers, however, there were 29 actual starters, due to injuries, illness and bitches in season.

The day began with Open Gun Dog with 7 starters, followed by Open Puppy with 7 starters which was followed by a leisurely lunch break. In the afternoon we began with Amateur Gun Dog again with 7 pointers and completed the day with 8 in the Open Derby.

Despite less than ideal conditions with temperatures in the mid 70. s, the judge reported that most of the dogs represented themselves well. The grounds were rolling hills consisting of a mix of trails through fairly open woodland, wetland, and field with natural objectives.

Our judicial panel included Bob Seeley, professional handler and breeder of field trial Vizslas; Katie Tazza, amateur breeder and handle of Dual Champion German Shorthaired Pointers; Fran Sakiey field trailer and breeder of German Wirehaired Pointers and our own Deborah Burke.

We want to thank our committee, particularly Zeynep Outwin, Secretary, and Tom Outwin who found the grounds, did extensive pretrial preparation and handled loose ends. Also, thanks to Laurie Shroyer and Tammy Albee and pinch hitter marshals and bird planters, Tom Lilli, Cheri Smith, Katie Tazza Deborah Burke and Vicki McGwire.
