2011 National Specialty
AMERICAN POINTER CLUB NATIONAL
SPECIALTY
MAY 9-14, 2011
Oconomowoc means “where the waters meet”. We
welcome all Pointer enthusiasts from the world over to meet this
May in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. This lovely community is
just a short ride from Wisconsin’s largest city, Milwaukee.
A city built on the diversity of immigrants from all over the
world, Milwaukee celebrates its rich ethnic history each year
with a variety of “fests”. We felt it fitting to celebrate
with our own “Pointerfest”, to recognize our Pointers from all
over our country. Join us in our celebration!
“Pointerfest” actually begins with three all- breed
shows in Jefferson, Wisconsin on May 6th, 7th, and 8th.
Badger Kennel Club and Janesville-Beloit Kennel Club hold these
shows annually at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. For
show information from the superintendent, visit
www.royjonesdogshows.com. Jefferson is
the county seat for Jefferson County. The fast moving Rock
and Crayfish Rivers meet in Jefferson, and were major routes of
transportation for fur traders and settlers. Just south of
Jefferson is Fort Atkinson. This is named for General
Henry Atkinson, who had a major role in the
Black Hawk War. There is a replica of the
old fort, and the
Hoard Historical Museum, both of which are free
to the public. Next to the Historical Museum is the
National
Dairy Shrine Museum. For those who really
want to get a feel for the area, and the most out of their
vacation, these are great places to add to your agenda.
Monday May 9th , the American Pointer Club Field Trial
will be held at the Ottawa Field Trial grounds, just 8
miles south of the Olympia Resort, our host hotel. These
field trial grounds are part of the
Kettle Moraine State Forest- Southern Unit.
This glacially carved area is beautiful, and we hope that you
can take some time to explore the area. You can get
information and
maps at the forest visitor center.
Detailed information on the APC Field Trial and Hunt Test can be
found elsewhere on this site. Tuesday, an hour after the
last hunt test brace has run, Wilderness Pointer Club invites
everyone to end the day with a Wisconsin style Tailgate Party at
the field trial grounds. Brats, kraut, potato salad, and
all things tailgate party will be included!
Wednesday, while the APC board toils at its annual
meeting, the rest of us will have some fun! The
Hospitality rooms will be open to welcome all attendees, with
gift bags and goodies. The Hospitality committee is
working hard to have plenty of sightseeing opportunities ready
to go for those interested in seeing the area. Points of
interest include Milwaukee, Miller Brewery, Old World Wisconsin,
and Holy Hill, just to name a few! That afternoon the
Breeder’s Seminar has an exciting seminar planned. Please
see schedule of events for more information. After the
Breeder’s Seminar the hospitality room will be open for the
Hospitality Welcome Party.
Thursday begins with the very competitive APC Agility
Trial, followed by the exciting Futurity competition.
The Ozark Pointer Club will be hosting a Fun Match for
all the little Pointers to have a romp in the ring and rack up
some fun ribbons and prizes. The evening is capped off
with the Annual Membership Meeting at 8p.m.
Friday starts with a Hospitality Breakfast hosted by
the Upper Midwest Pointer Club. The rest of the day is a
bevy of activity, with Rally, Obedience, Sweeps and conformation
judging begins with Class Dogs and Veterans. At 6:30p.m.,
the APC Health and Research Committee will be hosting a dessert
social, followed by an exciting seminar at 7p.m.
Saturday the day begins with another Hospitality
Breakfast hosted by the Ohio Hall Of Fame Pointer Club.
The regular classes end with the crowning of our Best in
Specialty Show, followed by the non- regular classes. The
star studded evening celebrates our shining star award winners
during our Annual Banquet. Then the fun heats up even more
when Deborah Harper steps up to the microphone to begin the
bidding excitement of our annual auction. In between all of
this, raffles and silent auctions and state baskets will keep
the excitement level high!
We hope you will join us for this exciting Pointerfest
week. We look forward to seeing you!
